Massively reports that Norwegian developer Funcom has received a grant for more than $250,000 to create a new "extreme sports MMO." Currently titled Board With The World, the new project will focus on snowboarding but may include other extreme sports in the future.
Funcom director of communication Erling Ellingsen explained, "We also want this to be a social world rich with different types of media content and pop-cultural elements such as music, video, and even fashion."

well it will be something new that is for sure, not sure how it can play out like in a mmo style, but hey I'm all for them trying something new and original, more companies should try that concept.
Don't take snowboarding too seriously, geez. That would be a major cash drain they aren't going to make any money off of that in the long run. This type of game has got to be within the realm of a larger game. There are too many genre-specific MMOs anymore, there's going to have to be a GTA style MMO where you can do this kind of snowboarding thing all day on a million different gigantic mountain ranges, but only as one aspect of a single game. How many people would really buy a snowboarding MMO by itself.
This is a really dumb idea, but its their money to waste.
Yeah i don't know about this, are the snowboarding sim games even that big? I know my self after snowboarding for two years, i see how people like it. I prefer skis instead haha.
But besides the point, i can't get into games like ShawnWhite, even the Tony Hawk Skateboarding ones. It just makes me want to go outside and do it. Even on rainy days if i couldn't or non winter months. It just makes me stop playing it and think about it. I'll bust out my skis and start waxing them instead of playing through the game.
Love snowboarding, but this dosen't seem like to good of an idea. Not that i wouldn't like to play it. But it seem's like alot of work for a small demographic.
This is a game i would be interested in, but would not pay for if you had to for online.
