LittleBigPlanet has been met with commercial success ever since it released for the PlayStation 3 in 2008. A platformer with an emphasis on user-created levels has generated more than one million levels since launch. With success comes a sequel, which is usually the case, but LittleBigPlanet may be the exception to the rule.
In an interview with Critical Gamer, Media Molecule was asked about the future of the franchise on the PS3 and it doesn't seem likely there will be a sequel, at least for now.
Level designer Danny Leaver says that a sequel would fragment the LBP community: “We’d never want to do that. That’d be the most counterproductive thing you could do I think.”
With the support Media Molecule has shown to the LBP creation community, this reaction is no surprise. With new DLC regularly making its way onto the PlayStation Store, we probably don't need a sequel anyway.
It would be more interesting to see the another game launched on the PSN for this game. Just like they did with GTA DLC.
Maybe they're working on a special edition for the 360? Probably not, I know, but one can always hope...
...right?
dude this game doesnt need a sequel. what would they put? like the article says.. there is ALWAYS new content getting made and it never gets old. it would take you FOREVER to beat half of the online boards. atleast the company is honest and doesnt want to milk it for what its worth. can't say the same for the barely changes l4d 2 lol
I think the steady flow of DLC is good enough. I don't think there needs to be another LBP. What they should start getting to work on is an LBP MMO or RPG with user made quests that would be similar to downloading a quest to Oblivion or Dragon Age: Origins using the in game content. It would be just like building a level, but instead the users would be building enthralling plots and stories.
doesn't need a sequel.
Now if only that regular DLC was more substansial stuff like levels made by the creators of the game and not just costume packs...
That would be so cool, ya know more stuff along the lines of the MGS pack.
ive always wanted to play this game. but never got the chance to.
hope they make the sequel.
Kudos to them for not milking the franchise.
With so much downloads and the user created content, you wouldnt need a sequel.
Yeah as long as they keep those DLCs coming with packs like the MGS4 packs, I'm happy =) And an update with more ways to change the water would be nice as well.
If they don't make a sequel, than someone else is going to take their idea and make it better.
I already greatly supported MediaMolecule for the excellence in ingenuity, creativity, and so many other things. This just absolutely multiplies that by 10.
This is exactly the type of philosophy I can get behind. This only means that these guy are putting themselves behind their games and improving them, like the water they are working on, I'm sure they have even bigger ideas for DLC. There is no need for a sequel for a game that has added so much through DLC already. It's really insane how much is available in this game. And how much more is possible.
The saddest part about this is the losers that buy sports games. This is exactly what they could be doing (actually it would be easier for sports games, mostly updating rosters and other such nonsense and some light physical changes). But people are willing to pay what amounts to obscene amounts of money for updated rosters.
Agree with everyone below. As long as some more substantial DLC comes around every once in a while to add alongside the costumes and sticker packs, I am gold.
That's a sound plan, I don't need a sequel anytime soon, Keep up the work Media Molecule, jus keep the DLCs coming
I don't own a PS3, so my time with LBP was limited, but it was especially enjoyable to wander through all those stages. The single player was rather lackluster in my opinion, but the online functionality was top-notch. A sequel is in no way needed for the forseeable future.
Good for them! Not every game that does well enough to constitute a sequel necessarily NEEDS a sequel. When you make a hit sometimes you gotta move on to bigger more ambitious IP. After something so fresh and original a sequel would derive from the novelty of the game thus making the second game itself just a cash in and nothing but more of the same.
I agree with media molecule
Too bad Valve made L4D2...
Eh I dunno how I'd feel either way toward sequel or not. Its a good game though.
they should have took this idea and run with it. Fully 3-D? I can dream...
