Easy Piano Game/Peripheral Announced For DS

The video game landscape has been awash with music games recently, but this one has us slightly intrigued. The game is called Easy Piano, and as you can see from the screenshot above, it features a piano peripheral for the DS.

With Easy Piano, players will be able to learn how to play the piano, or play a traditional rhythm game similar to Guitar Hero or Rock Band. Players – or pianists, I suppose – will also be able to record their own songs, though your DS cart’s memory will max out at total of four 3-minute-long songs. So you’re not going to be able to record Beethoven’s 9th Symphony, but it’s still a step up from most DS music games.

It’s hard not to be skeptical of Easy Piano, considering the fact that your keyboard only has 13 keys (though the software will feature eight virtual octaves). But it’s also hard not to be at least a little excited as well. With perhaps the exception of the drums in rhythm games, this is the first attempt to make a peripheral that’s true to its real life counterpart. Can we really learn how to play the piano from Easy Piano? We’ll let you know when we get our hands on a copy. Until then let us know what you think in the comments below.

  • First! JK. Looks cool though.

  • Hm. I doubt that this will be over able to overcome my musical inability.

  • Ugh. Another music game. It is destined to fail.

  • (Why can I not edit?- remove "over" from my post and it makes sense. Lol)

  • and ppl laughed when i said piano hero is the next big thing. here it is.

  • Oh man, I am a music major at school and I can see it now, people learning this game and coming to play the pianos in the music building...and only playing in that one octave...and playing the same thing over and over. This will be awesome lol

  • i think music games should stay where they're at.  Or atleast just NOT make this.  You can only play one full scale.  I don't think this'll work out very well!

  • Yay, a piano I can comprehend! All those keys usually confuse me, but I can totally handle 1 octave! Piano Hero FTW!

Actually, Keyboard Hero FTW! You can make some cool sounding stuff with a keyboard.

Because that'll, ya know, fit right in my pocket...

  • I wonder how detailed this will be. It most likely won't be a decent computer program for creating music, but maybe it'll be good if someone has some inspiration while on the subway.

Good luck taking out your Baby Grand Piano on the Uptown E train.

  • Again no DSi support :(

    Just kidding its gonna suck

  • This looks like a complete waste of money. Anyone interested in learning the piano should just get the real thing, and use their DS for other software.

  • Too bad I can't play this on my DSi...

  • Wow.  I want to play this.  I'm a bit of a musician but have never learned piano though I've always wanted to learn.  I'll wait for the reviews but I'm optimistic about this.

  • As much as I want to learn how to play the piano, this thing pale to the likes of using MIDIs and the such.... But, it's worth a try, right? I just loved to see someone playing Fur Elise or something like Super Driver from Haruhi Suzumiya.

  • since ive been playin piano since i was like 6 im prob gonna get this game...

I learned how to play piano when I was 4 and studied classical and jazz when I was 7. I had a little Casio keyboard when I was in middle school about the size of two DS's that I used to throw in my bag in case I wanted to mess around with it during recess.  Easy piano kind of reminds me of that only a lot smaller.  Since I love piano and I haven't played my DS in I don't know how long, I am definitely intrigued by this!

  • looks interesting

  • Nintendo always seem to come up with something new or interesting.

Might as well buy yourself a MIDI controller and a copy of Reason.
