SquareEnix has revealed some minor details regarding Final Fantasy XIII's level-up system. While first looks of the new progression system resemble FFX's Sphere Grid, very few specifics have been announced. What we do know is that Crystalium Points will be earned after winning battles, which can then be used to acquire abilities in the Crystalium System interface. Keep an eye on the site, as we'll be sure to update as more detailed information becomes available.
This battle system seems so different from old Final Fantasy games. Whether that's a good thing, we'll just have to wait and see.
second comment for the win!!!!
I remember liking the sphere grid, but I was a really big fan of the liscense board becacuse of all of the choices it presented. Oh well Final Fantasy pretty much always has cool level-up systems (FFII sucked though)
To be honest, I don't really what type of leveling system they use for this game. I trust Square enough to know they'll deliver on their part. I just want the game to be out already.
A "sphere grid-esque" system would be awesome. I like the sound of this even better though because it might allow a more continual progression if points are awarded every battle and the "spheres" aren't ridiculously "expensive". I'm sure the combat and everything will be good but I just want the story to be better than a certain other entry *12 cough*.
I doubt this is happening in FF13, but I liked the board system from FF12 where you could gain abilites and new specialties in weapons and armors by allocating points.
Dope. Now when can they release this game? It's taking forever
Different can be good. It'll be interesting to see.
So basically they have given up on a proven method that people seem to enjoy in favor of another proven method that people enjoy. This will change the game how?
come out come out where ever u are.. will this game come out already.. oh right the system, well i really dont care untill i see it myself.
So I would guess that the points are used like an upgrading system of sorts? Or perhaps like a growth system where if you focus on certain techniques and skills they receive points and level up over time with the more points you get or use on them? I don't know, I guess we can only wonder. Thanks for the update!
This will definitely make for an interesting concept. I can't wait to see how this all plays out in the game :-)
i'm actually glad that Square is trying something new to keep the game modern and relevant, but i just hope that they maintain the heart, scope and amazing storytelling that we all fell in love with.
I want this game now... cant wait that far....
This will be interesting, the Traditional RPG is about leveling up. could this be a new type of RPG element SE is thinking....
It is entirely conceivable that the anticipation will render me invalid before it ever sees release. But assassin's is coming shortly to help.
aah, final fantasy...how i long for thee! i got the japanese demo with a.c complete and have played it at least 70 times. i cant wait for this.. plus the new lvl system is great, i loved the sphere grid and the licence board and this is an improvement on those ideas!
From what I've gathered, the battle system will be closer to XII in that all of the enemies are present on the map at all times; you can always see them, and choose to fight or not fight them at your leisure.
As for this leveling system, I like the sound of it. I was a fan of the Sphere Grid, because it gave each character a clear path, but also allowed for variation at the player's discretion. At the same time, I did like the license board of XII, but I didn't like how the whole board was hidden from you. Without a strategy guide or the ability to look up the map on the internet, you had no idea where you were going. I'd rather know in advance where I'm going so as to plan out my characters ahead of time.
And to the fellow who said he hopes it has a better story than XII, I'm going to argue that XII had a pretty good story. I found it refreshing to see a Final Fantasy stray from the well-beaten save-the-world-and-fall-in-love-doing-it path. It's important to remember that games set in the world of Ivalice have (almost always) had a high degree of political intrigue to them, and I think XII carried on that tradition swimmingly. Further, I have never seen a Final Fantasy that did more to give each character a distinct personality and background, as well as their own story-arc. Don't tell me that's bad storytelling.
Sphere Grid FTW! I Loved that the from FFX, it was cool choosing which path Kimarhi got to take because he started in the middle, and once you completed one section you could move into another character. Want Auron to be able to heal the party BAM! It gave you freedom to lvl up your party the way you wanted, I can't wait to see if this works out.
I loved XII after awhile and I am sure I will love this one too, I just hate how Final Fantasy has changed so much to the point it shouldn't even bare the name Final Fantasy. That's just my opinion though.
PS The black guy that has something living in his afro is the worst character idea yet..........
