Microsoft Might Finally Reward Your Gamerscore

If you get an email from Microsoft don’t delete it. The company has recently sent out emails to select Xbox Live subscribers as a pilot for a rewards program. Microsoft has declined to comment further on the program, but the email stated, “This is an exclusive pilot rewards program. That means that the people who get in get stuff. Cool stuff.”

Interestingly, Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter recently predicted that Xbox Live subscriptions could split into several tiers, allowing certain members to receive DLC discounts and other rewards. So maybe this rewards pilot is just the beginning of some big shakeups for Xbox Live. We’re willing to bet Microsoft will have some interesting Xbox Live announcements at next years E3.

  • sounds like a bad idea. I don't like being lumped in under a bunch of random people who are getting cool discounts and stuff.

  • If I get the stuff cool, if not don't bother.

  • so.... do you have to "spend" your gamerscore points? to get stuff or is it once you reach a certain level like 10,000 you get this item, then 20,000 you get this item, i need more info this.

where is the gamerscore leader boards they said was gunna happen??

  • Eh, could be good.

  • "select xbox live subscribers," eh? seems odd how i, a silver member, got one. guess i'm gonna have to try it out.

  • *crosses fingers we can actually spend our gamescore points on stuff* Ah to live a perfect world....I could only imagine

  • I think its a good idea. Interested to see what it really is.

  • Since MS points are basically "free money" to Microsoft, I'm surprised they haven't done more things (outside of 1 vs. 100) where you could potentially win MS points or objects you spend MS points on (like those overpriced NFL jersies).  That would generate a lot of interest online and goodwill to consumers, and I don't see how it costs them anything.  People interested in DLC aren't going to stop buying it just because they got some points for free one time.

  • Hey I got one of those emails! I was directed to a short survey in which I was asked how much I loved Xbox as a brand, console, and how satisfied I was with the Live service. Still waiting for my invite to try the new update though....

  • I would hope so; I spent forever trying to run down somebody on a Mongoose! :-P

  • Sounds like a gimmick to mask the inevitable elevation of subscription fees.

  • Well this could also mean that certain members r gonna be butt outta luck when and if the "shake ups" happen, it could also mean a price hike in the standard membership price from $50 to $80+. I hope not, microsoft aint hurting for money so they shouldn't be so concerned about raising the price of potential membership cost for the sake of sum rewards program. Reward everyone evenly, its a simple formula for success, especially when u already have over 20 million ppl using ur service already. Be fair.

  • Hm? Sounds interesting but why set it up in a class-like system?

Need more information before I really start caring about this.

  • I didn't get the e-mail, but I hope this eventually turns into something that will make my 130K Gamerscore worth more than just bragging rights.

  • if they do this, i think this is why that analyst said, XBOX loive will be $100$, if they do this ill be pissed.  adding rewards would make the $50 seem wothit, as of right now XBL is worth about $35 for a year

  • I'm guessing this will end up looking something like Club Nintendo, where you do their surveys and they reward you with points which you can use to buy worthless junk. Or, if Pachter is right then you'll end up paying $100 a year for a subscription that nets you a 10% discount on DLC. So basically, you'll end up paying double and probably never make up the difference in savings.

  • If done right this could be outstanding.

  • This sounds like a random idea put in to play the fact that certain people might be chosen is just like a contest

  • As I said before in a similar story about price hikes, if it were to ever happen, then I would no longer be a Gold member entirely.  I'm happy to be a Silver member any day of the week and just download content as necessary.

  • If the rewards we'd be getting for achievements are relegated to some nifty swag such as t-shirts, free avatar stuff and discounted prices for DLC then that is AWESOME news.
