Early Forza 3 Players Getting Banned On Xbox Live

Pirates be warned. Microsoft seems to be cracking down on illicit gamers who are playing early copies of Forza 3.

Microsoft director of policy and enforcement for Xbox Live Stephen Tolouse wrote on his Twitter (via Destructoid): "You know, when you play a pre-release title on LIVE when I know you shouldn’t have it, it’s not hard for me to figure out."

Toulouse went on to assure people that they're able to tell whether Xbox Live users are playing an actual retail copy that they just happened to get early or a sketchy illegal copy. Microsoft is only cracking down on the illegal stuff, naturally.

Destructoid's report also mentions Microsoft cracking down on illegal Borderlands copies as well, although this isn't confirmed on Toulouse's Twitter account. Of course we can always hope that Borderlands is included and that they accidentally ban GI's Dan Ryckert as punishment for getting to play the game before me.

  • They should be getting banned.. It takes alot of hard work for developers to make these games.  Please go and buy games and support the developers so that these cool games cant keep coming.  without your support these games cannot exist.

  • Why wouldn't they be banned? Seems kinda common sense.

  • I am glad for this. It is hard enough for games to turn a profit without people doing this, if you are dumb enough to play on xbl on a game that isn't even out yet then you deserve to be banned!

  • Crime does not pay people.  Neither do video games based on movies (except the most recent wolverine game) other than that no.  K, glad we're all clear on that.

  • That good that those people are banned people work hard on those games. And I agree with WATCHM3N if everybody is gonna buy boot legged copies how are developers supposed to make more games?

  • Banned as they should be. This should just be a regular happening with every game.

  • Of Course these people should get banned as well as get arrested.

  • I have a freind on xbox live that got halo3 ODST 2 weeks before release off of a website. He just played it offline utill the actuall game came out and he hasnt gotten caught yet so thats pretty funny. Microsoft why even ban? people are still going to do it. Just like stealing. Thats always going to be in the USA and unless we put a death penalty to it stealing is not going to stop. I do understand that you have to try and stop them but you need to ban them from xbox live for ever not just a one month punishment.

  • I'm pretty sure I have a few friends that play on a modded xbox that have never bought a game, so what about them?

  • Dark son, please tell me you are joking.

"Microsoft why even ban? people are still going to do it. Just like stealing."

So are you saying that we shouldn't try to stop people from stealing, because people are going to still try it anyway?  Maybe we should get rid of a justice system while we're at it.  Downloading a game for free or somehow getting an illegal copy is the exact same as stealing, because you are taking something that you should not have without paying for it.  People just don't think it's as bad as physically stealing because you just need to click a few buttons, rather than sneaking it out of a store.  Support the developers by paying for the game, or you shouldn't call yourself a gamer.

  • Really...? Who is dumb enough to pirate a game, and then play it on xbl? And if you like the game, why not buy it so the companies who make the good games survive...?

  • Well hopely Microsofts doing a good job, we wouldn't want any legal buyers getting caught in traffic.

  • crime does not pay untill the release date but what about press that are reviewing the game on live?

  • I second WATCHM3N if we don't buy the games the can't make more games or even new content so come poeple just buy the game and play it safe so you can play the game with ur friends

  • I don't think it is saying whether or not they should be banned, but more of a statement of they are watching for illegal gamers! Pirated games are the same as movies and music it is stealing, they should banned and prosecuted. A lot of people spend long hard hours making these games, when gamers use illegal copies, they are taking money away from those people, which, in the long run costs us all! The company then has to recover those costs by raising the cost of games.

  • i say that would be a tradgedy if dan got his account banned. that would suck for him

  • If you are illegally copying the game then yes I belive you should be banned. It is not fair for not only the developers but also for the people who pay for a legitmate copy. If we have to pay then everyone else should have to as well.

  • I agree with everyone else. They should be banned from Xbox Live for good. Its one tthing to have a company sponsored beta or demo and another thing to have an illegal copy. If you can't wait like everyone else, then you shouldn't get the chance to play with everyone else.

  • Nice to know many people still pay for their games instead of being thieves.  If one is stupid enough to play an illegal copy of a game that is not even on the market yet (and to do it on XBOX LIVE in the same breath) they should be banned and prosecuted!!!  Just banning is a slap on the wrist and is not the answer.  These people are criminals and should be treated as such.  They should be charged with double homicide (lol...just an analogoy) because they are killing honest paying gamers and hard working developers!!!

Listen pirates the steps are very simple to understand!

1)Decide whether you like or might like the game.

2)Try the demo of the game which will then help you reach a logical decision.

3)Mosy your thievin' behind down to the game store and buy it.

4)On the way home just stop by Taco Bell and buy about 12 Volcano Tacos to blow off the STEAM and stress of actually having to pay for a game!!!

Now see how simple that was.

  • I know why the people who played illegal copies played them, like you all. They just couldn't wait. But be fair, wait like the rest of us.
