Back at TGS it was revealed that Capcom would be giving Resident Evil 5 the director's cut treatment, complete with utilized PlayStation 3 motion control. While it's been decided that the game will be arriving Japan on a physical disc, Capcom is leaving the format decision up to North American and European fans -- DLC or retail?"Since you will ultimately be the people buying and playing this new content, we've decided that you should be the ones telling us how to make it available," said Chris Kramer on his Capcom-Unity blog. The blog post also sported a nifty poll allowing Capcom-Unity members to vote for either "a new box and a physical disc," or the ability to "download the new content digitally as soon as it's ready!"The poll will run for a few weeks, until Capcom has a good idea about what the community wants. Kramer adds, "the demand for DLC in the west is huge. More and more, gamers in North America and Europe want content immediately and are less inclined to be tied to boxes and packages." I think the biggest kicker here would be if the DLC version came at a reduced price. Who'd be silly enough to pass that up? What are you folks voting for?
If they did it as DLC it would most likely be at reduced price since it wouldn't be the whole game, just the additional content.
I actually see a better solution, which is both. Like what Bethesda did with Fallout 3, release the DLC for people who have already bought the game and release a new addition that would have the extra content as well.
This could draw in people that have yet to buy the game, and those who sold their copies.
Well, if its just adding on content to my already saved game, sure DLC. but if im going to have to download the whole game, put it on a disc, may as well. less taken up space on my xbox
I prefer DLC. It can be cheaper than releasing it in retail.
It would've be nice if Capcom asked this question with Super Street Fighter 4.
I think this version definitely warrants a full retail release. But, I'm not gonna say no to DLC at a reduced price.
I haven't purchased this game yet oddly enough. I absolutely loved Resident Evil 4 because it was a fresh break-away from the ceaseless Mario Party games and such on the Gamecube, so when I heard about this I was pretty excited. And then I played it, and it didn't have the same appeal for some reason. I think it may be because after a few years of playing fast-paced FPS titles, going back to the stop-and-shoot strategy felt strange to me. For some reason that aspect of the game made everything feel more urgent in 4, but in 5 it frustrated me. I would say to release this in a box though- DLC does make things easier but I personally enjoy adding a game box alphabetically onto the shelf with the rest of them. Hopefully this means the original Resident Evil 5 will go on a bargain price =].
If I had to bet...I'm guessing they will do both.
I think it really depends on the length of the addition onto the already released game. If it were the size of a completely new game then yeah release it for retail. But if say if it were the size of full DLC games like up to 3 gigabytes I would say release it for DLC. Or if its the size of DLC but they decide to go retail they should definitely settle for lowered price.
this is how gaming companies should be doing it, leaving it up to the gaming community.
No brainer, DLC. No question. I will not buy that game again.
DLC for sure.
Disk & DLC like Fallout 3 and GTA4 did...
Depends on pricing and features... I could go for either honestly, just depends.
It depends on how the DLC would be. But, if it was reasonable, I think DLC is the best way to go here.
I choose DLC. But wasn't this suppose to be exclusive to 360? What happened?
I'm totally in approval of RE5:AE being DLC.
It's easier for both console-gamers and PC-gamers, and PC-gamers just got the original port a month ago, so I think it's fair to say the majority don't feel like spending retail price on an alternative edition anyway. And since the PC port was so good, I don't think Capcom would have to worry about any PC-gamers arguing that the alternative edition should be free. Reduced pricing never hurts, though.
I think it should be retail because not everybody has Xbox Live or PlayStation Network. I don`t have Xbox Live for example.
I agree with the fallout idea. I have Fallout 3 and am going to buy the game of the year edition anyway because of the massive saving it will get me. Win win for all.
I vote physical disk.
I say it should be DLC. Considering most people already bought RE:5 and don't want to pay full price for the same game and with a bit of extras.
Cool how developers are given the community a chance to have a say on what goes in or out of a game.
I vote for DLC at a cheaper price. Now if its a full game then it would be best to ship it on a disc for those who do not have a big hard drive.
