Bowie Reunites With Pop Via LEGO Rock Band

Ever wonder what David Bowie would look like as a minifig? Well, know you know.

Several weeks ago we brought you the news that music icon Iggy Pop had attached himself to LEGO Rock Band, appearing as both a playable character and a disembodied voice to guide players through the game’s tutorials.

Bowie, who has worked with Pop on numerous occasions, brings with him his hit 1983 song Let’s Dance. The outfit, animations, band and venue have been confirmed by USA Today as being loosely based on that of the original music video.

Having never lent his likeness to a music game before, it seems a bit odd that Bowie would choose this avenue for his digital debut. Our only complaint? With his colorful music and film history, Bowie’s Let’s Dance ensemble is a bit tame, although accurate. Even with the inclusion his trademark duotone eyes, we would have rather seen him as a certain king of goblins. No Bowie, you are never going to escape the Labyrinth. An alternate costume perhaps? Considering some of the more unique ensembles available via the Rock Shop, it isn’t inconceivable.

More playable music legends are slated to be announced as launch draws nearer. With two classic icons already debuted, we expect some modern artists to make the cut in order to appeal to the “teen and tween” demographic Warner so highly covets. Pink’s song So What was one of first five tracks announced when Lego Rock Band came to light. That fact, combined with her energetic persona and stage presence, puts her at the top of our list of practical picks.

Lego Rock Band will hit retail this November for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Nintendo DS and Wii.
