Will Netflix Go Multiplatform?

by Annette Gonzalez on Sep 23, 2009 at 08:41 AM

In an interview with Reuters, Netflix CEO Reed Hastings said the company would like to share the movie rental service that is exclusively streaming on Xbox Live with other platforms.

“Eventually we want to be on all the game consoles, all the Blu-ray players, all the internet TVs. So we are working in parallel with all of those efforts,” Hastings said. Currently our Xbox deal is exclusive and we haven’t characterized it more than that.”

Does that mean you’ll be able to add movies to your Instant Queue on the Wii? How would that compete with the PlayStation Store’s rental service? It is still unclear how long Microsoft has until its deal with Netflix is up. Until then, PS3 and Wii owners will just have to keep the movie streaming to mailboxes.
