t’s hard to believe it, but it’s true: After a long wait (and a delay or two), Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto IV is hitting shelves in a week. So what’s a gamer to do with those remaining seven days? Once the game hits, you’re probably not going to want to do anything but play for a while—which is why preparation is key. Well, we here at Game Informer Online are here to help you with that. We’ve compiled a short list of things that everyone should do before they sit down and explore Liberty City.
Clear some space for the new arrival
If you’re completely insane and have picked up every Xbox 360 title released, Grand Theft Auto IV will nestle comfortably between the Golden Compass and Guitar Hero II. PS3 users will want to make sure there’s space on their shelves between Gran Turismo 5 Prologue and Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock. Don’t alphabetize your collection? What’s wrong with you?!

Make sure your controllers have plenty of juice
If the 360 is your weapon of choice, stock up on AA batteries. Better still, pick up a Play & Charge Kit and kiss those disposable-battery days goodbye. If you’re a PS3 gamer, you might want to consider picking up a long USB cable so you can be comfortably tethered to your system while you’re charging up.
Call your store to see if it’s hosting a midnight launch event
If you’re picking up the game from a dedicated game store, chances are it’ll be open at midnight Monday. Still, it’s worth a call to double check—the drive of shame is never fun, especially not at midnight.

Stockpile an ample supply of food and beverages
If you want to get hardcore about this, you’re probably not going to want to leave your house for a few days. Ensure that this is possible by making sure you’ll have plenty to eat during the quarantine period. If you really want to get authentic about it, several online sources will fly a variety of signature Liberty City—or New York—dishes directly to your front door. Whether you’re in the mood for an authentic slice, a bagel or a dog, you have time to prepare your order before Tuesday. You might want to pick up some antacids and eye drops while you’re at it, too. Sore bellies and dry eyes are par for the course, but they’re not mandatory.
